Reference
SC 8/47/2304A
Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
John de Fenwick, knight
Name(s)
de Fenwick, John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
John de Fenwick requests that the king and council order the Treasurer and Chamberlain of the Exchequer to pay him a debt of £8 2 s., for which he has a bill of the wardrobe, sealed with the seal of Roger de Northburgh, as he has served the king and his father all his life.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have examined the bill of which this petition makes mention, if they find that the debt is still clearly due, then they are to make payment, allowance or assignment as soon as they decently can, receiving etc. and charging etc.
People mentioned
Roger de Northburgh, [Keeper of the Wardrobe]
Note
CCR 1330-3 p.367 is dated at Westminster, 16 October 1331. This is clearly a response to SC 8/5/234, but this petition is probably from around the same time: the language of the endorsement is very like that of a number of petitions of this period concerning debts. Northumberland Petitions, no.148a, p.172 also dates this petition to c. 1331.Roger de Northburgh was Keeper of the Wardrobe between 1 February 1316 and 1 May 1322.
