Reference
SC 8/46/2300
Date
[c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Flemyng (Fleming), son of Henry Flemyng of Norwich
Name(s)
Flemyng (Fleming), Robert
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Robert, son of Henry Flemyng of Norwich, complains of wrongful imprisonment, first in Norwich, then in the Marshalsea, and requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent before those who are to be appointed as justices to inquire into the actions of ministers, and justice is to be done to him there.
Places mentioned
Norwich, [Norfolk]
Marshalsea (London)
People mentioned
Henry Flemyng (Fleming) of Norwich, father of petitioner
John de Loudham, Sheriff of Norfolk
William But, Bailiff of Norwich
William de Dunston, Bailiff of Norwich
Hugh Garton, Bailiff of Norwich
Adam Midday, Bailiff of Norwich
Thomas de Thornham
Thomas de Roscelyn
Henry le Scrop (Le Scrope), justice
Note
John de Loudham was Sheriff of Norfolk between 2 February 1328 and 5 December 1330. It is hard to tell from the petition whether he is still Sheriff: he is described as 'viscounte de Norff' whereas the Bailiffs are described as 'adonqe baillifs de Norwiz'. This is not conclusive, but a date of c. 1330 would seem reasonable, especially as, just at the edge of the damaged part of this petition, there is the name 'Roger de Mor...', which may be Roger de Mortimer.
