Nature of request
The merchants of Florence living in England state that a subsidy on wools and woolfells granted in the last parliament at Coventry is higher than they paid previously, and ask that they might be allowed to pay the previous lower sum.
Nature of endorsement
The king, with the assent of the lords spiritual and temporal has granted that the merchants of Florence named in this petition shall not pay, and that none of them shall pay, more than a subsidy of 50s. on each sack of wool, and 50s. on each 240 woolfells to be shipped or sent by them out of the realm of England from 1 February last, or henceforth to be shipped or sent by them out of the same realm, notwithstanding the statute or grant made in the last parliament at Coventry, in which it is contained that the said merchants should pay 53s. 4d. for each sack of wool which they would send out of the realm, and also 53s. 4d. for each 240 woolfells which they would send out of the realm; and the king of his special grace, with the advice and assent of the aforesaid lords has released and pardoned to the said merchants of Florence and to each of them the increase of 3s. 4d. on the aforesaid subsidy, from the aforesaid 1 February.
