Nature of request
Eleanor de Ewelle states that although she should hold her land of Kingsey free of all services, she paid scutage for the twenty-eighth, thirty-first and thirty-third years of Edward I's reign, because of which the Bishop of Chester, then the Treasurer, distrained her so heavily, falsely claiming that she was charged with finding a knight for the king's war, that she made fine before him in 20 marks, because he would give her no peace until she did. She asks that she might be pardoned this fine.
