Nature of request
The knights of Yorkshire state that several of their kinsmen, scholars at Oxford University, have been forced to flee Oxford, in fear of their lives, because of the disputes and violent brawls which have broken out among the scholars there, and have withdrawn to Stamford to study there, with the permission of John, Earl Warenne, the lord of the town. They request the king's protection for these scholars.

The commission for CIM 1307-49 no.1449 is dated at York, 7 June 9 Edward III (1335). The suppression of the school at Stamford at the instigation of the University of Oxford in 1335 is well attested in accounts of the University.
