The commons of the counties of Yorkshire, Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire state that although the sheriffs in their tourns have always received indictments of homicide, by virtue of which the justices of gaol delivery have proceeded to the delivery of such indicted persons, the justices are now refusing to do this. Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1377', with reference to Rot. Parl. vol. III, p.21a no. xlv, which is a common petition from the parliament of October 1377, which seems to refer to the same matter, and in its response specifically mentions the counties of Northumberland, Cumberland and Westmorland (although not Lancashire). It would therefore seem likely that this petition was presented at that parliament.
