Nature of request
The Prior of Holy Trinity, York, makes four requests:1) Although he is exempt of ordinary jurisdiction by especial privilege of the court of Rome, the Archbishop of York has excommunicated him and his Sub-prior, and sequestered the goods he needs for his support and to pay his tithe, and is taking away his right of reply by sending his letters to those whom the Prior pleads before the justices in eyre at York, saying that he is excommunicated, and has purchased a writ of capias against him and his Sub-prior. He requests a remedy.2) The Prior has purchased a writ of right concerning the church of Barton, against Henry de Grey, who is delaying the case by claiming that he holds the manor of Barton of the gift of King Henry, the king's father, and that the gift can return to the king. He requests a remedy.3) He requests the return of his franchise, which has been withheld from him since the late war.4) He requests an inquiry into his claim that the king holds three and a half acres of arable land which ought to be held from him.
