Nature of request
John, son of John de Euer, states that when he sued a writ of mort d'ancestor after the death of his father against John de Eseby, concerning the manor of Darras, it was claimed that it had been taken into the king's hand because of a debt which Robert Darrayns, Sheriff of Northumberland, owed the king from the time when he was Sheriff. The justices then ceased proceedings. John asks for a writ to the justices not to stay proceedings in the assize on account of this claim.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ in Chancery to the justices appointed to take assizes in the said county to proceed to take the assize notwithstanding the aforesaid claim, provided that they do not proceed to give judgment without consulting the king.

CCR 1354-60 p.411 (dated at Westminster, 4 May 1357), mentions a petition presented to parliament by the petitioner in the twenty-eighth year of the king's reign (ie. the parliament of April 1354), which is probably this one. It is dated to c. 1354 by Northumberland Petitions, No.57, pp.74-5.Robert Darrayns was Sheriff of Northumberland between 15 June 1334 and 29 June 1339.
