Roger de Esshe states that when the king was at Stanhope in the bishopric of Durham, the king's people forcibly cut down and carried off his corn and grass, and drove away his and his people's livestock, without making payment. He asks the king to inquire into the truth and to make him some compensation, as his lands have often been burnt and destroyed by the Scots.

According to Northern Petitions, pp.183-4 (no.137), Edward III was at Stanhope in pursuit of the Scots in July 1327, so this petition is likely to date from shortly after that.
