Nature of request
Letters from Edward I to Gerard de Voorne, Castellan of Zealand and Lord of Maarland, complaining that Doedjin Baencart, merchant of Maerlant, bought four lasts of herring from Robert Elys, of Great Yarmouth, through Jacques Baencart of Reimerswaal, but he has delayed paying him for them, and requesting that satisfaction be made to Elys. Included is a copy of a bond made by Jacques Baencart of Reimerswaal, merchant and attorney of Doedijn Baencart, acknowledging that he owes Robert Elys of Great Yarmouth £20 for four lasts of herring bought from him, and promising to pay this in Maarland at the following Christmas.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] This deed was acknowledged in the court of Yarmouth before Henry Rose and his colleagues, Bailiffs of Yarmouth in the twenty-eighth year of King Edward.[On dorse] The community of the town of Yarmouth is to inform the Chancellor by its letters patent, sealed with the common seal of the aforesaid community, that lord Robert de Voorne, Chastelain of Zealand, failed in doing justice to Robert Elis, mentioned in the petition, and the same Chancellor will provide the aforesaid Robert with an appropriate remedy.
