Nature of request
The Prioress and nuns of the Convent of St Helen's, London state that Edward I granted them by his charter a market and fair in their manor of Brentford, which have fallen into disuse because they are enclosed and cannot pursue their business. They ask that the king to grant and ratify this charter.
Nature of endorsement
Because the Abbot of Westminster, which is of the king's foundation, is lord of the vill, and has all manner of franchises in the said vill, the Abbot is to be called to show his arguments against this before anything is done.

VCH London, vol. I, p.458, dates this petition to c. 1350 on the basis of an indulgence granted by the pope in their difficulties following the Black Death, which may give a clue as to the date of their attempt to recover their rights in the petition. Piece 26 of C 49/7 suggests that this petition was presented in c. 1351.
