Reference
SC 8/44/2198
Date
[c. 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Ecclesale (Eccleshall).
Name(s)
de Ecclesale (Eccleshall), Robert
Addressees
King
Nature of request
Ecclesale states that he paid 10 marks for a fine for a charter to clear his park and is distrained by a summons of the Exchequer for the debt. He requests remedy and that he be withdrawn from the pipe of the Exchequer so that it is not wrongly levied from him again as he only has a respite until Easter.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ in Chancery if it can be established there that Ecclesale paid the money to the Hanaper, to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that Ecclesale be exonerated and the money withdrawn from the pipe.
People mentioned
[John Hotham], Bishop of Ely and Chancellor.
Note
The petition is not precisely datable as no reference appears connecting to the response. However the petition is clearly after John Hotham was replaced as Chancellor, so must be after 26 January 1320.
