Date
[c. 1344]
Description
Petitioners
Richard Daumary (Damory).
Name(s)
Daumary (Damory), Richard
Addressees
King
Nature of request
Daumary shows that his land at Monekesham in the forest of Selwode was made into a park with banks, hedges and deer leaps but these are now ruinous and all manner of animals can come and go. He wants to make part of the park into little parks with banks, hedges and deer leaps, and the remainder into meadow and arable but the justice has prevented him. He requests a writ to the justice to enquire if this was a park, and what it contained, and if it was one that he be able to make parks at his will with deer leaps without challenge.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Monkesham (Monks Ham), Somerset
Forest of Selwood, Somerset
People mentioned
William la Zouche, Justice of the Forest south of the Trent.
Note
The petition is dated on the guard to c. 1344 on the basis of a close roll entry that records Damory having sold his bailiwick of the forestership of Selwood. This reference is perhaps not sufficient firmly to support this date.
