Reference
SC 8/44/2181
Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Alexander de Bicknor, Archbishop of Dublin.
Name(s)
de Bicknor, Alexander
Addressees
King and council
Occupation
Archbishop of Dublin
Nature of request
The archbishop shows that he was sent by parliament to Gascony. On his return Despenser and Baldock prevented him from having his expenses. He requests that it be ordained that he be able to account and have due allowance as others of his estate have.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ in Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they account with the archbishop of the things contained in the petition and do justice to him as others of his estate.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned
Hugh le Despenser
Robert Baldok (Baldock).
Note
The petition probably dates to before 1331 for the writ in the close rolls is as a result of a petition by the archbishop to have the debt owed for his time in Gascony against that which he owed the king for his time as treasurer of the Exchequer of Dublin, and therefore presumably represents a further stage in the process of the archbishop's claim (CCR 1330-3, pp.113-4).
