SC 8/44/2177
Date
[c. 1319]
Description
Petitioners
Alexander de Bicknor, Archbishop of Dublin.
Name(s)
de Bicknor, Alexander
Addressees
King and council
Occupation
Archbishop of Dublin
Nature of request
The archbishop states that he purchased the custody of the vill of Balrothery from Athy during the minority of the heir. Breton falsely caused it to be taken into the king's hand and received it in grant. The archbishop requests that he be restored to the land and have the issues from the time after he was ousted.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ in Chancery to the justice of Ireland according to the petition that he should call before him those that are to be called, and if he finds that the things that are contained in the petition are true, and nothing is found by the party to bar it then he should be restored to possession, having what pertains of the issues by good advisement.
Places mentioned
Balrothery, [County Dublin, Ireland].
People mentioned
John de Athy
Robert de Clohill
Adam Bretoun (Breton)
Roger de Mortemer (Mortimer).
Note
The petition presumably dates to c. 1319 for Breton was claiming a prior grant to him which was accepted on 22 May 1319, and the archbishop's petition must have followed this (CCR 1318-23, p.70).
