Reference
SC 8/43/2146
Date
[1348]
Description
Petitioners
Arnold de Dureford (Durfort), knight
Name(s)
de Dureford (Durfort), Arnold
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France].
Nature of request
Arnold de Dureford states that he and his men who have been on the king's service in his war are owed money for their wages and for their horses lost in the war, and asks the king and his council to order the Constable of Bordeaux to account with them, and to pay them what he finds by account to be owing without delay.
Nature of endorsement
The Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered to account with them, and to pay them what he finds by account to be owed to them as soon as he conveniently can.
Note
The entry for Arnold de Dureford on C 61/60, m.29 is described as being 'per peticionem de parliamento' and is dated May 7, 22 Edward III (1348): it seems to be in response to this petition. The petition is dated on the guard to '? 1348' on this basis, replacing an earlier dating of c. 1330, based on CPR 1327-30 p.526, dated at Woodstock, 18 May 1330, which seems perhaps more likely to refer to SC 8/43/2141.As CCR 1330-3 p.335 (Westminster, 3 October 1331) makes clear, there are two Arnold de Durefords, father and son, so this petitioner may not be the same as that of SC 8/43/2141 and SC 8/43/2145. CCR 1339-41 p.546 (Andover, 4 October 1340), reveals that the elder is dead by that time.CCR 1333-7 p.31 is dated 6 April 1333, and CCR 1337-9 pp.120-121 is dated 17-19 April 1337.
