Description
Petitioners
Alexander de Bicknor, Archbishop of Dublin.
Name(s)
de Bicknor, Alexander
Addressees

Occupation

Nature of request
The Archbishop likewise states that the king's father, in the first year of his reign, at the time when the Templars were taken, ordered him, then Treasurer of Ireland, to find suitable sustenance for the Templars in Ireland, according to what was ordained by the king's council; which he did, paying various sums amounting to £399 4 s., and asking for an allowance for this in his account rendered at the Exchequer of England - an allowance which has not yet been given him. As a result of a petition in parliament, the king granted him a writ to the Justiciar, Chancellor and Treasurer of Ireland to inform the Treasurer and Barons of the English Exchequer on the matter, and in the meantime granted the Archbishop respite of a sum with which he was charged for the arrears of his account at the English Exchequer, but the Justiciar, Chancellor and Treasurer have not returned the writ, and a writ has been sent from the English Exchequer to levy from him the sum which was respited. He requests another writ to the Justiciar, Chancellor and Treasurer to provide the requested information, and a respite in the meantime from the levying of his debt.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] A writ is to be issued as before, returnable in Chancery on a certain day; and in the meantime he is to have a supersedeas until that day.

Note
Dated in Sayles, Affairs, p.161-2, to 1333.CCR 1333-7 p.56 is dated at Tweedmouth, 18 June 1333. As a response has been given to the writ, the petition must date from slightly before this.
