Bartholomew Dubeneye of Ipswich
Name(s)
Dubeneye, Bartholomew
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Bartholomew Dubeneye of Ipswich states that Martin Beauveys of Corbie and others of the town of Amiens imprisoned him and stole his goods at Amiens, and that writs sent by the king on this matter have had no effect. He requests that a remedy might be ordained for him elsewhere.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent to Chancery, and the Chancellor, calling the members of the council, is to provide a suitable remedy for the merchant.
Places mentioned
Ipswich, [Suffolk]
Corbie, [Picardy, France]
Amyas (Amiens), [Picardy, France]
People mentioned
Martin Beauveys of Corbie
Note
CCR 1327-30 p.344 is dated at Salisbury, 25 October 1328, and attests the existence of the petitioner at this time. However, as there have clearly been several attempts to obtain recompense for Bartholomew, and he always refers to this being done by the king, not 'the late king' or 'the king your father', this petition is clearly either from the reign of Edward II or from later in the reign of Edward III.
