Description
Petitioners
Walter de Donington of Gloucestershire, and Walter de Donington his son
Name(s)
de Donington; de Donington, Walter; Walter
Addressees
King and Council
Nature of request
Walter de Donington makes two requests:1) He states that Abbot John of Evesham is wrongly withholding from him a meadow in Donnington which he pledged to William, the abbot's predecessor, for twelve marks, of which he has paid ten and a half, and that when he entered the meadow in the fifteenth year of the king's reign, as he could by virtue of a deed between himself and Abbot William, the present Abbot's bailiffs attacked and wounded him and his people, on the Abbot's orders. He requests a remedy and justice.2) He states that Vigor, monk of Fécamp, Warden of the franchises of Gloucester and Cheltenham, had him falsely amerced in ten marks in the Eyre of Gloucester, and distrained him for this from the fifteenth year of the king's reign to the seventeenth, and when he complained in that year, and obtained a hearing in the king's court, Richard Bretvile imprisoned him, at Vigor's procurement, until he had granted him the ten marks. He requests a remedy and justice, and an inquiry into the imprisonment.Walter, son of Walter de Donington, states that Walter de Gloucester is withholding from him forty marks which he should have paid him on the morrow of All Souls in the seventeenth year of the king's reign, for some land which he deceived him into selling him during his minority. Because of his minority, he cannot be received to make recognisance of the sale, and he cannot have the letter of obligation from the king's ministers, for fear of Walter de Gloucester. He requests a remedy and justice, and that the truth of this matter be inquired into by jury.
