Description

Name(s)
de Donewyz (Dunwich); Heroun (Heron), Peter; Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Peter de Donewyz and Robert Heroun state that when the king was in Flanders, and Earl Warenne and the earls and barons of England re-took Berwick upon Tweed, which had been occupied by William Waleys and the king's other enemies, in the twenty-sixth year of the king's reign, the earls and barons told Earl Warenne that they could only stay there if the foot-soldiers were paid: so the petitioners were ordered to take victuals and other merchandise from English merchants by means of indentures, which were kept by Walter de Agmodisham, then Receiver of Scotland. They are now being sued by the merchants for this prise, and ask the king to command the Chamberlain to examine these indentures and to ordain for satisfaction to be made to the merchants, so that the petitioners might be discharged.
Nature of endorsement
Coram thesaurario (Before the Treasurer). The Keeper of the King's Wardrobe is to be ordered that, when he has examined the rolls of the account of the executors of the late Walter de Agmodisham, and of Robert Heroun, and also the indentures for the provisions thus taken by them and Peter de Donewyz, and if what the petition asks is found in the said indentures, a writ of the privy seal is to be sent to the Chancellor of England, through which a writ of liberate is to be sent to John de Sandale, Chamberlain of Scotland, that he is to pay the money contained in the said indentures to the creditors or their specified attorneys, receiving from them the indentures that they have in their possession for this.
