Description

Nature of request
The community of Dublin state that the present Treasurer, by searches of the old rolls of the Dublin Exchequer, from the time before there was a Mayor in the city and before it was delivered to its citizens in fee farm, is demanding old rents, with their arrears, for tenements which are in the king's hand. And although the Mayor and Bailiffs have sufficiently answered these demands, they are given no allowance, but distrained for the rents. They ask that their arguments might be heard here, or that the king might order the Justiciar of Ireland to hear them and to do justice to them. And if there should be some reason or difficulty to prevent them from being quit of these demands, then that the king might be informed of this in England on a certain day, when he can speak his will on the matter.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer of Ireland are to be ordered that, when they have examined the rolls of the aforesaid Exchequer, they are to inform the king at his next parliament about the contents of the petition etc.
