Nature of request
The citizens of Dublin state that after the time when Robert de Ufford was Justiciar of Ireland, the king's marshals in Ireland have seized and made delivery of houses within the walls of Dublin, against their will and against the tenor of their charter. They request a writ to the Justiciar of Ireland that, when he has seen their charters, he is to allow them their franchises according to these charters, the previous illegal seizures notwithstanding.
Nature of endorsement
The Justiciar of Ireland is to be ordered by writ of Chancery to examine his charter and to do justice.

People mentioned
Robert de Ufford, Justiciar of Ireland
Note
PROME, roll 12, appendix, no. 495 (full edition and translation) and 'Irish Ancient Petitions', p.13 identify this petition with the Latin summary found on roll SC 9/12, from the parliament of February 1305, but Maitland, editing it in Memoranda de Parliamento, pp.237-8, no.412, says 'This petition is hardly that which is enrolled here, but deals with the same matter'. Another Latin summary, of a petition delivered at the Midsummer parliament of 1302 (SC 9/25), and which seems to be very similar to this one, is edited by G. J. Hand, Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy, vol. 71 (1971), section C, pp.2-10, p.5: but the endorsement is not the same, on either the 1305 roll or the 1302 one. This would suggest that this might be a third petition on the same subject, but probably delivered around the same time. Robert de Ufford was Justiciar of Ireland between 17 June 1276 and 21 November 1281, however, so the problem was a long-standing one.
