Nature of request
John de Deyvyll states that he was of the company of John de Moubray, and taken in his castle of Oystermouth in war, and then imprisoned in the Tower of London until he released to the wife of Hugh le Despenser £20 of rent in Melton Mowbray and Crick, which he had for term of life of the gift of John de Moubray. He asks the council that he might have his rent back.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue at common law, and if a quitclaim is advanced, he is to state that he was in prison.

This would seem to date from shortly after the fall of the Despensers.The release of the rents by the petitioner (CCR 1323-7::p. 335) is dated at Nottingham, 26 December, 18 Edward II (1324).CCR 1323-7 p.125 (the summoning of the prisoners before justices) is dated at Tunbridge, 27 June 1324.
