Date
[c. 1329]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Dieulacres.
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioners request that they to have a grant of the hamlet of Rushton which Despenser held from them making satisfaction for the year and waste, and that they be able to have their escheat so that the Church is not disinherited.
Nature of endorsement
They should wait.
Places mentioned
Dieulacres, [Staffordshire]
Rushton, Staffordshire.
People mentioned
Hugh le Despenser, Earl of Winchester.
Note
The lands that were held by Despenser were extended in March 1329 (CIM 1307-49, no.1073). It seems likely that the petition must date to around this time, though it may perhaps have been earlier, as the abbot and convent are likely to have sought to recover their lands as quickly as possible.
