Name(s)
de Denton, John

Occupation
Merchant of Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Nature of request
Denton requests that remedy be done to him as he sent wool and other merchandises to Flanders with his servant and these have been seized by the count and the echevins and burgomasters of Bruges and are still detained, and his servant detained in prison until ransomed.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain good and law-worthy men be assigned by commission to enquire both by the oaths of merchants as of others if the arrest was made as the petition alleges, and by whom it was made, at whose suit, and what goods were arrested, and of other articles touching this business. And when the inquisition is returned, if the arrest was found to be as the petition alleges and the sea passage is closed as it is now then he should have arrest upon the commoners and peers of those who made the arrest, though the arrest is not to extend to those goods and merchandises of merchants residing in England, nor to those who have free tenenements in England. And if the sea passage be open when the inquisition is returned then let it be ordered to the lords to do justice, and hold to the old course.
