Reference
SC 8/41/2043
Date
[c. 1337]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Dalby of York.
Name(s)
de Dalby, Robert
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Dalby requests that he be granted a writ of Chancery to have the keeping of Everkyn and his goods and chattels arrested in York in part recompence for his goods and chattels that have been arrested in Bruges along with his servant, and that he have the keeping until Dalby's servant together with his goods and chattels are delivered to him or his certain attorney.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the mayor and bailiffs that they keep safely the Fleming and his goods and chattels, and that they certify in Chancery what goods and chattels they have and their value; and they are also to inform themselves of the goods and chattels of the petitioner that have been arrested there, and their value; and this is to be certified in Chancery, and the king will consider what ought to be done for justice.2) Aresta.
Places mentioned
Everwyk (York)
Bruges, [Flanders, Belgium].
People mentioned
Thomas de Lyndeseie (Lindsey), servant of the petitioner
Everkyn [de Brugges (Bruges)] son of Everard de Brugges.
Note
The petition probably dates to 1337 for the keeping of Everkyn and his goods was ordered to be delivered to another merchant on 4 June 1337 on the same basis that this petitioner requests the keeping (CCR 1337-39, p.74). It seems that many merchants were having their goods seized in Bruges, and Dalby was not quick enough to be able to obtain Everkyn's keeping.
