Nature of request
The petitioners request a writ to the escheator to enquire how and by what right the king has a rent of 3s. from lands in Washbourne since it is not owed, though a fine was paid to the escheator during the minority of Joan, as he claimed that the tenants of Washbourne owed suit to the manor of North Bovey, though no suit was owed, the fine being paid to keep the peace.
Nature of endorsement
It is ordered to the Escheator that he should enquire diligently on the contents of the petition and other things touching the business, and thence separately certify the king in Chancery so that justice can be done.
