John de Cherleton (Charlton), Lord of Powys.
Note
The petition would seem to date to the period 1309-18. John de Charlton received the grant of the lordship on 26 August 1309 so that the petition must predate this by sometime for him to have prevented the abbot and convent from taking their profits (CFR 1307-19, p.48). Rees is quite probably correct that the petition must be before 1318 when the abbot had the house's charters confirmed, obtaining the confirmation relating to the house's struggles, and indeed one of the charters that was confirmed was that of Gwenwynwyn (CPR 1317-21, p.163).
