Nature of request
1) The people request that the king will pardon them all the demands that have come, except for the farms that are due to the king because they have been ruined and burned-out by the Scots, and they request writs of respite to the sheriffs of those parts until the king has commanded his will.2) The people further request that they be pardoned for the chattels of felons which were entrusted to their keeping after the last eyre as so many are ruined or dead by the Scots and famine.3) The people further request that the the king order the victualler of Carlisle to account with them for their wages and make payment to them from the victuals which they are willing to accept since they have been in the garrison of Carlisle since the arrest of Andrew Harcla until Pentecost.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first two petitions, it seems to the council that if it pleases the king that to more speedily settle the country with good men to defend the land, and because the people who ought to answer for the forfeited chattels are all dead that the king should make his grace of them at his will.2) Concerning the third this is at the command of the king.3) Coram rege.
