Nature of request
1) The people request that in order to preserve the king's land and their lives that they are not troubled by summonses, distresses, assizes or juries outside of the county, except grand assizes, since they are a long way from the court at London and are impoverished by amercements and expenses.2) They further request that the king will grant that they are able to have a sheriff of their own choice that will be profitable for both the king and his people for whom they will answer, and that the election be made each year by common assent.1)
Nature of endorsement
To the first petition he is not able to do it, but inquisitions de nisi prius are granted to them.2) To the second petition it is against the ordinances.
