Description
Petitioners
John de Crumbewelle (Cromwell).
Name(s)
de Crumbewelle (Cromwell), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Crumbewelle requests that he is able to have a writ the levy his scutage from the fees held from him and his wife from the 28th year, which his wife in her widowhood was ordered to do in the king's service in Scotland, the service being offered and received, but subsequently pardoned by the queen.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Escoti (Scotland).
People mentioned
Idonia de Layburne (Leyburn), wife of the petitioner.
Note
The petition appears to date to 1307 for a writ was sent to the sheriff of Bedfordshire to supersede the demand for scutage from Crumbewelle. However the writ doesn't seem to be quite what the petition requested, so it is possible that the writ was not in answer to the petition (CCR 1302-7, pp.491-2).
