Isabel Crok (Crook), widow of Piers Crok.
Name(s)
Crok (Crook), Isabel
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Crok requests that her dower lands from her first husband in Olveston and Berwick be delivered to her. She received the lands following the death of her first husband, and then married FitzWilliam. He took the robes of Berkeley, a rebel and enemy of the king and died in prison after he surrendered.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let good men be assigned to enquire of the truth, and the inquisition be returned, and let justice be done in Chancery.2) Coram domino rege.
Places mentioned
Olveston, Gloucestershire
Berewyk (Berwick), Gloucestershire.
People mentioned
Piers Crok (Crook), first husband of the petitioner
Henry Fitz William, second husband of the petitioner
Maurice de Berkele (Berkeley).
Note
The petition clearly dates to after the fall of Maurice de Berkeley in 1322, and it seems likely that this must date to 1323, or as the guard comments note - 1324. c. 1323 seems a reasonable assessment.
