Description

Alexander de Coventre (Coventry); John de Saluthleye of Ladbroke.
Name(s)
de Coventre (Coventry); de Saluthleye, Alexander; John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
1) The petitioners complain and show that Ladbroke has held two great Leets per annum though he has no franchise. The petitioners did not wish to assent to this as it was to the king's disinheritance, and Ladbroke pursued them by the malice and maintenance of Dalby his parson who excommunicated them.2) They further show that the parson excommunicated Coventre without process and cause or an order of the ordinary as Coventre was in the king's court with Chandos because he did not wish to give Dalby an annual rent by extortion. Because of this Dalby has had him summoned in court Christian in various places in disturbance of the king's court and the common law as Coventre is sufficient at the common law. The matter is pending by bill and indictment before Bereford in the trailbaston of Warwick, and Coventre requests that the king grant that the thing be heard and determined as was ordained before.
Nature of endorsement
. . . by John de Chandos for the profit of the king.
