Description
Petitioners
Executors of Joan de Coupland, widow of John de Coupland.
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The executors show that the Couplands were granted an annuity for their lives for John de Coupland's capture of David Bruce at the battle of Neville's Cross, but during the time that Brantingham and Scrope were treasurers the annuity fell into arrears for 4 years. Joan was unable to recover the arrears and requested the assistance of Lyons who discounted 540 marks from the arrears and claimed the full sum from the king. The executors request justice against Lyons in the same manner as Lady Ravensholme had against Lord Neville so that they can carry out Joan's will and settle her debts.
