Nature of request
Cotes states that he had served the king's grandfather and father in their Scottish wars and lost lands and goods and has sued for this for 5 years, and has a writ of the treasurer by the king and council to have a payment or assignment but has had nothing. He requests that the king grant him letters of the privy seal to the treasurer and chamberlains of the Exchequer to have payment or a suitable assignment of 260 marks due to him as appears by bills of the chamberlain of Berwick as he has nothing to live on without aid.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.2) He should sue to have execution according to the order that he has before this time.

The petition dates to 1331 for a writ was issued to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they make payment or an assignment to the petitioner if the debt was due on 28 November 1331 (CCR 1330-3, p.387).
