- Cotes states that he had served the king's grandfather and father in their Scottish wars and lost lands and goods and has sued for this for 5 years, and has a writ of the treasurer by the king and council to have a payment or assignment but has had nothing. He requests that the king grant him letters of the privy seal to the treasurer and chamberlains of the Exchequer to have payment or a suitable assignment of 260 marks due to him as appears by bills of the chamberlain of Berwick as he has nothing to live on without aid.1)
