Name(s)
Colkbakere; Fulker, Walter; Walter
Addressees

Occupation
merchant of Holland
Nature of request
The merchants state that they loaded a boat of Veere at King's Lynn with wool and woolfells and sailed for Calais. During the passage they were driven by a storm to Vlissingen and lost much of the cargo. They have returned to King's Lynn and the boat and cargo was seized because they had discharged the cargo elsewhere than Calais. They have petitioned for the return of their boat and cargo and a writ was addressed to the mayor and bailiffs to deliver the boat and cargo as long as the petitioners were prepared to answer for their value if they were adjudged forfeit. They request that the council consider their losses, and that they had no choice but to discharge the wool . . .
Nature of endorsement
Let it be enquired by the mayor and bailiffs of Lynn concerning the matter . . . and if they find that this bill contains truth they are . . . with their pledges and all their goods and merchandises . . . boat be delivered completely.

Note
The petition must date early in the reign of Richard II as the petition shows, and it is likely to date to around 1378, though it seems to be subsequent to a writ to the mayor and bailiffs of Lynn on this matter dating to 20 November 1378 (CCR 1377-81, pp.44-5).
