Nature of request
Cotton requests grace for the manor of Oxenton which he took for the term of years from Tuchet, the which term is seised in the king's hand together with his chattels, the term enduring to the feast of St Michael next which he is able openly to show by an indenture made between them. He requests that he might be suffered to enjoy the same until the end of the term, as Tuchet has nothing in it following the beginning of the term, nor is able to forfeit John's chattels, only his own, and he requests the king's grace concerning the manor.
Nature of endorsement
He should show what he has concerning the term, and when this has been viewed it should be enquired of which goods and chattels of Coton's were taken into the hand of the king, and these should be restored. Concerning the land - nothing.

The petition dates to 1322 for a writ was issued to the sheriff of Gloucester to hold an inquisition into the matter on 18 May 1322 (CCR 1318-23, p.456).
