Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The people show that Lonere has caught numerous robbers in several neighbouring vills and retained the stolen goods and allowed the thieves to escape, and has taken 2 heifers in the vill of Carlton into the liberty of the queen and still detains them without law. He is also a maintainer of all evil people of the country whereof the people request remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The king is not able to do anything if it was not undertaken by indictment.
Places mentioned
Corby hundred, Northamptonshire
Wirbeston (Wilbarston), [Northamptonshire]

Ashley, [Northamptonshire]
Rockingham, [Northamptonshire]
East Carlton, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned
Richard Lonere of Wilbarston, bailiff of Corby.
Note
The petition has been dated to Edward II's reign (probably the latter part) on the basis of the handwriting style and the reference to the queen. In addition this dating late in Edward II is further supported by the existence of an endorsement in French which only became common practice after 1322.
