Description
Petitioners
Allen de Coupeland (Coupland), son of Richard de Coupeland.
Name(s)
de Coupeland (Coupland), Allen
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Coupland shows that his father died at Michaelmas 25 Edward I, and that the escheator took the issues of his lands because he held the wardship of the heir of Thomas de Melton, and held it until an inquisition found he was of full age. He is now distrained to make fine for his relief, and it seems to him very harsh that the king should have the issues of his lands, and he be charged for a relief, so he requests that it be commanded by a writ to the escheator that he repay the issues that he has levied from the land since he has agreed to make fine for his relief.
Nature of endorsement
Before the chancellor . . .that the petitioner was of full age at the time of his father's death then the escheator should be written to that he should restore the issues. . .
Places mentioned
Gilleslaunde (Gilsland), [Cumberland].
People mentioned
Richard de Coupeland (Coupland), late father of the petitioner
Thomas de Multon of Gilsland.
Note
