Nature of request
Cayly requests remedy, for Brun gave and released to him seven free and peasant tenants and land and meadow in the vill of Falfield. Aubrey sued an elegit out of a statute merchant and recovered the tenants, but they have since come into the hands of the king by Audley and Cheney's forfeiture.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Valeveld (Falfield), [Gloucestershire]
Gloucester.
People mentioned
John le Brun of Falfield
John Aubrey, merchant
Hugh de Audeley (Audley)
William de Cheny (Cheney).
Note
Hugh de Audley would seem to be either the later Earl of Gloucester or his father, both imprisoned following their involvement with Thomas of Lancaster in 1322. The father died in 1325/6, but the son escaped, and his forfeiture was annulled in March 1327. The petition presumably dates to the period of this forfeiture. A John de Cayley or Caillo was also active in Gloucestershire around this time (CPR 1324-7, p.304, 1327-30, p.527).
