Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/40/1982
Date
[c. 1301]
Description
Petitioners
Katherine le Conestable (Constable), widow of Simon le Conestable.
Name(s)
Conestable (Constable), Katherine
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Conestable shows that she granted the manor of Whisby to the king by fine in his court. Weston, the king's bailiff assigned to take seisin of the manor contended that certain lands in Grimsby and elsewhere were appurtenant to the manor, though they had been purchased by Conestable and her late husband and seized them, and they were afterwards granted to the abbot of Meaux. She has brought a writ of novel disseisine whereby the abbot showed his royal charter, and she could have nothing by her writ except by suing the king. Following this in the parliament at Lincoln Hegham and Gloucester were ordered to enquire of this, but Conestable has been long delayed. She requests that it be ordered to the justices inform on this thing, and if they cannot others be assigned who are able to do so, and that the jurors are distrained since she has been delayed many times by their default.
Nature of endorsement
Let William de Carleton be assigned in the place of the escheator, thus that he and Hegham should enquire in the previous form.
