Reference
SC 8/40/1981
Date
[? 1316]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Conway.
Addressees
King
Nature of request
The burgesses request that the king grant to them the town and the mills of Gyffin at farm, rendering 2 marks per annum beyond what they have rendered before if the king does not wish to retain them in his hand.
Nature of endorsement
It should be enquired if it is to the damage of the justice of North Wales if the king demises that which is requested together with the increase offered in the petition, and certify this, and in the interim let it be handed over.
Places mentioned
Conway, [Caernarfonshire, Wales]
Gyffin, [Caernarfonshire, Wales].
Note
The burgesses were granted the town and mills on 12 May 1316, though the grant doesn't quite tally with the petition, so it is possible that the grant was not made as a result of this particular petition (CChR 1300-26, p.307).
