Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/40/1957
Date
[c. 1339]
Description
Petitioners
Roger Clerc (Clerk) of Binbrook.
Name(s)
Clerc (Clerk), Roger
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Clerc requests that he be paid or receive a suitable assignment for wool that Levelance and Cokheved, collectors of wool took from him for the king's use for which he has received no payment since he has nothing to live on except the wool.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue in Chancery to be certified out of the Exchequer if the king was served of the wool, and if it is found that he was served, it seems to the council that he ought to have letters patent as others have them.
Places mentioned
Binbrook, [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned
Thomas Levelance
Hugh [Cokheved].
Note
The petition would seem to date to c. 1339. Other individuals who had had wool taken by these two collectors were also seeking payment in 1339 (CPR 1338-40, p.290). It would seem that Clerk was dead by February 1340 (CPR 1338-40, p.473).
