Nature of request
Collan sues for the parishioners of Lanteglos and the people of the vills of Polruan and Bodinnick showing that the mariners of the Fowey were taken in war in the wages of the admirals and are still imprisoned for ransom in Spain, Normandy and France, and all their boats and goods were burnt and destroyed by the Spanish enemies. He requests that the people be discharged from the subsidy and pardoned in relief of their poor estate.

The subsidy referred to in the petition is the poll tax and graduated income tax granted in parliament on 27 May 1379. In addition the notes on the guard refer to the petition being attached to an inquisition now in C 145, which dates to 27 September 1380 (CIM 1377-89, no.126).
