The petitioners show that Joan Stokesby enfeoffed them of the manor of Tolethorpe, which they held for a year and a day until Damory forced them to abandon the manor, and he has held it against them until this time. They request remedy and grace.
Nature of endorsement
They should state their right in Chancery, and how the manor came into Damory's hand, and the truth of this should be inquired of if it is necessary and let justice be done.

The petition dates to c. 1314 as the petitioners acknowledged that they owed 80 marks to Joan Stokesby in September 1314. It is possible this sum relates to the tenure of the manor referred to in this petition. (CCR 1313-18, p.194).
