Description
Petitioners
John Charneles (Charnels), son of William Charnels of Bedworth.
Name(s)
Charneles (Charnels), John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Charneles states that he had entered into several manors by reason of a remainder. He was ousted by the Beauchamps, and the manors came into the hand of the king by the forfeiture of John Beauchamp. He requests that the king order the chancellor to do right to Charneles, and that no livery be made to anyone out of Chancery until Charneles' right is enquired of and received in Chancery.
Nature of endorsement
Let the petition be sent into Chancery and the Chancellor do what the law wills.

Joan [Beauchamp], wife of John Beauchamp, knight.
Note
The petition suggests that the petitioner was aware of other claims on the land that he claimed rights to. This may be evidence of the claims of Philip de la Vache to the wardship of the Beauchamp heir, which seems to have been secured between 1389-1390, so that the petition is likely to date to c. 1389 (CCR 1389-92, pp.74, 301).
