Nature of request
The abbot states that the king, when the town of Scarborough was in his hand, seized into his hand the chapel of the castle, which was appropriated to the church of Scarborough, and received the offerings against the liberty of the church. He requests remedy and that he be able to have some assignment.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that when they have viewed the matters of which the petition makes mention, if they find that the king was answered for the offerings pertaining to the church that then they are to have regard to make payment or assignment to him.

The petition can be firmly dated to 1331 by the writ addressed to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer in accordance with the petition and response issued on 8 October (CCR 1330-3, p.356).
