Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition refers to a debt owed by the late king (Edw. I), and also to the last parliament held at York, which, during Edward II's reign were held in 1312, 1314 and 1322. The bishop had died on 12 February 1305. As the response is in French, this usually suggests that the petition postdates 1322, but this seems too long after the bishop's death to be acceptable, and earlier petitions with French responses are certainly not unknown. However the guard suggestion of 1315 seems more probable.
