Nature of request
1) The bishop shows that an approvement that he has made in his manor of Tarvin has been thrown down by the keeper by colour of a writ at the suit of the tenants of Tarvin and Kelsall who claimed common there and that it prejudiced the forest. He requests a suitable remedy.2) The bishop further requests remedy since the bishop had brought a writ of novel disseisin against Massey and others for his free tenement in Tarvin, and on the day agreed Massey did not wish to come and complained against the panel and delayed and disturbed the bishop of his right.
Nature of endorsement
[Responses entered of the face after each request:]1) Let it be ordered to the keeper by writ of Chancery that he certify the cause for throwing down the enclosure.2) Because the verdict of the triers is contrary in law let the justice of Chester [be ordered] that he make enquiry by 12 law-worthy men as to whether the sheriff was maintained and procured by Massey, and if he finds that the sheriff wasn't, then he retake the execution of the . . . and send it back to the sheriff.

The guard tentatively dates this c. 1308 on the basis of a reference in the fine rolls, but this is tenuous, and the hand and responses look later: the petition is notionally dated her to the second quarter of the fourteenth century.
