Nature of request
The petitioners state that they have been ruined in the Scottish war, and suffered great damage to their house by fire, and cannot endure without some remedy. They are further troubled by a plea of Champion who has sued them before the king for a corrody in the house for his life by the grant of the king, the house being charged by the king to maintain one of the king's men forever by his grant. They request that the grant be repealed and the suit be ended, as they are not able to endure the charge without the aid of the king.

The petition dates c. 1332 for Champion was granted the maintenance on 8 September 1331, and the letter to the prior and convent are dated 18 March 1332, so that the suits must have followed shortly thereafter (CCR 1330-3, p.337; C 270/1/58).
